Cap initially nearly round, then becomes convex, broadly convex, or nearly flat as it matures. The surface is smooth and reddish-orange, fading to a peach or orange-yellow tone, often with a darker center. It is covered with numerous yellowish, cottony warts and feels sticky when fresh. The margin typically develops slight lines with age. Gills truncately free, very crowded, and moderately broad. They appear creamy with a pale pinkish tint and have a distinctly floccose (cottony) edge. The short gills are numerous and end abruptly in a truncated manner. Stem typically tapers toward the top and flares into an enlarged basal bulb. It is somewhat shaggy in appearance and whitish in color. A fragile skirtlike ring is present on the upper part of the stem, which is white above and yellowish below. The base of the bulb often shows scattered patches and fragments of yellow universal veil material, though well-defined concentric bands or rings are rare. Spore print white.
Microscopic Features: Spores measure (8.0–) 9.4–12.7 (–18.0) by (5.5–) 6.5–8.5 (–11.1) micrometers. They are ellipsoid to elongate in shape, occasionally broadly ellipsoid, and rarely cylindric. The spores are inamyloid, meaning they do not stain with iodine-based reagents.
