Description
Entoloma pallescens, commonly known as the Pale Pinkgill, is a small agaric mushroom with a dark brown cap that can appear slightly translucent or wrinkled with age. The gills are initially pale but turn pink as the spores mature, and the slender stem is usually paler than the cap. It typically appears in summer and early autumn, growing solitarily or in small groups in coniferous forests among moss and needles, on humus-rich soil.

Cap initially conical-bell-shaped, later expanding and slightly convex, smooth, slightly grooved; grey-brown, watery, fades when dry. The central bump soon pales and becomes whitish-cream. The margin is thin and regular. The flesh is thin, brittle, pale ochre, fibrous in the stem; it has a pleasant scent reminiscent of watermelon. Gills free to adnate, with a fertile edge, beige to pinkish-brown in colour. Stem cylindrical with a slightly widened base, pruinose at the apex, with longitudinal fibrils, ochre to cream in colour. The stem has no ring. Spore print orange-brown.

Microscopic Features: Spores are globose, multi-angled, 10–16 × 7–9 µm

Many mushrooms are poisonous, and some can be lethally toxic. Distinguishing between edible and poisonous mushrooms can be very challenging. Therefore, we strongly advise against consuming wild mushrooms. This website does not contain any information about the edibility or toxicity of mushrooms.
